Making use of siderophore transport systems to deliver peptide nucleic acids to bacterial cells
The project objective is to use bacterial iron transport systems to deliver peptide nucleic acid (PNA) oligomers to bacterial cells, including the design of siderophore-PNA conjugates, their synthesis, and atomistic-level characterization of transport through the bacterial outer membrane. Our long-term aim is to find a non-invasive way to deliver antibacterial PNA to Gram-negative bacterial cells using bacterial iron-transport systems and perform simulations of this transport at atomistic details.
